Screen sharing allows you to share your screen with others in the Space. In this article you will learn how to set it up in the Space Editor.
With screen sharing, you or your guests can mirror their screen to a predefined display in a 3D space. Combined with an active avatar system and voice chat, this allows you to give lectures, presentations or pitches to a virtual audience, for example.
Requirements
The following requirements are necessary for screen sharing:
- There has to be an object with a display in the space on which the screen content can be shown. First, you should place a suitable 3D object in a prominent position. We recommend a large wall monitor or a stage with a screen.
- Live avatars must be activated in the space. You can find the avatar settings via your dashboard.
How to enable screen sharing in 3 steps
- Select an object in the Space Editor by double-clicking on it or via the object list to activate editing. (Screen sharing is only available for objects that have a display, e.g. monitors or TVs).
- Go to the Displays tab in the object menu in the right sidebar and activate Allow screen sharing.
- Select a placeholder image under Display Media. This image will be displayed as long as there is no screen sharing.
In the 3D Space Viewer, a [+] will now appear above the object, which can be used to start the screen sharing (alternatively, double-click on the object). Click here to read how to use screen sharing in the 3D Space Viewer.
Lock screen sharing
You can set that an ongoing screen sharing session cannot be taken over by enabling lock screen sharing. In this case, the current screen sharing must be actively ended before another person can share their screen.
Allow screen sharing only for specific roles
You can allow screen sharing for specific roles in the Space (moderators or guests). Simply select the corresponding roles that are allowed to share their screen on the display.
